New Focus or Feature....?

Today I want to flip-the-script a little and get you to maybe think outside the box a if you haven't already by showing you a less conventional way of making something that is very practical in the home a focus point or a feature wall.

Shelving units are great but have always been over looked and used more for practical usage i.e storage for lack of space instead of being a feature itself and this is what I will like to highlight. Toss the wallpaper aside and the paint and get yourself a custom made shelving unit that will make your space unique and set apart from the rest. (Keep in mind this works in an office setting too). This works great here in Nigeria as labour is not that expensive as long as you get someone that is good in their craft and has good finishing.

These shelving's are by Alf da Fre and they make a normally boring furniture into something to look and be proud of with their mix and match units. I would go a step further and choose bright colours for some of the unit doors so as to keep in with the whole colour blocking trend.

Blast-from-the-past!

Retro Style

Following the bright-trend, we have the oh-so 80's inspired vibrant trend with elements of the modern touch to keep it current so, you are invited to make a special journey in the past with vintage elements and shades that revive the idea of family, fun and origins in the following images.

With all these images certain elements have been used that have that 'retro' style and not all. For instance either the furniture is the retro element or the choice of wallpaper/colour used but whatever it may be, it is the feature element in the design scheme. So why not try it yourself. Go out and purchase am 80's inspired wallpaper and add it to one wall making it the feature piece in your home or office reception.

Just because

This is a fun blog with a hint of seriousness as I want to highlight and educate the minds of most Nigerian/African on the importance of living/working/visiting in an environment that is welcoming and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

From an early age my mum has always told me how I've always had a flair for creative things, be it fashion, hair and now my greatest love....interiors!

The great thing is you don't have to have a huge budget to make a difference in your environment and I am going to be showing you simple things that can be done to achieve a stunning, expensive looking effect.

What's Hot!

OK, as the year is fast coming to an end, we want to take a look at the trends that have stayed strong throughout the year till now. We'll be looking at varies areas from residential to commercial, wallpaper to bedding, flooring etc, basically anything that can help inspire and improve our living environments.

Colour has been a big thing this year and not just any colour but bright, bold colours and this trend has been referred to as 'colour blocking', so I thought what a better way to start off than with this image below. It happens to be one of my favourite colours and I just love the way it is used here in the home, thus making it a feature.

I found this bedroom done by a company in New Jersey (remember we go all over) and I think it is fabulous and just shows again how bold colours can be used to bring a space alive and give it character. It is done in such an elegant way that even those who are colour shy can truly appreciate the beauty of this scheme as a whole.

* Note the Use of wallpaper on the ceiling .....genius!
